Today, I wanted to give you a quick update on my experience with Substack.
First, there are more and more subscribers to my Introspectionnewsletter. People’s engagement is also increasing. I rarely lose people after sending out the newsletter, which I think is a good sign of appreciation. Yet’s, I’d like to see my membership grow further. Can you help me? Sure. Spread the word.
Second, I’m about to start working on issue #10 which will be ready for the end of May. I’m still having a lot of fun putting newsletters together. I wasn’t sure I could keep up. I see many weekly newsletters on Substack, but this cadence is way too high for the type of newsletter I want to create. I’m sticking to a monthly schedule. Oh, and I’ll keep it free.
Third, I’m considering making a few changes to the newsletter structure. One problem is the size limit of the newsletter. By including pictures in it, I have less space for textual content. Because of this, I may decide to remove the “Some of my photos that came to light” section. I could use Substack’s recently introduced “Sections” in order to create a separate type of publication for my photos. The other possibility could be to use Substack’s threads instead where readers could engage with me over my published photos. This would make my Substack page more active. The problem is that Substack is not considered a photography-related space (yet, this newsletter seems to be successful). Tell me what you think.
Fourth, Substack is still getting a lot of attention and keeps evolving as a content creation platform. The latest addition is support for sections. A section is for grouping similar content together (like newsletters, podcasts). I don’t have any use of these. The other addition is for links on the main page. I use them to direct readers to my other websites. I’m still waiting for template support, though
Since this post was published, I decided to move my Friday Notes Series and my Photo Legend Series over to Substack. My HEY World experiment has come to an end.
